Democrat Candidates Decline Omar’s Benjamins

Dan McCready, a Democrat running in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, and Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA) both returned campaign donations they received from controversial Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar because of the Congresswoman’s history of making anti-Semitic comments.

Omar donated $2,000 to McCready’s campaign on November 6, 2018.  Campaign finance records show that McCready returned the money on March 30th.

“Dan feels strongly that there is no place for divisiveness in our politics. Our campaign is focused on bringing people together. As such, Dan felt it was appropriate to return the donation from then-candidate Omar,” McCready campaign spokesman Aaron Simpson said in a statement to The Hill.

The Washington Free Beacon reported Omar gave a $2,000 contribution to Georgia Rep. McBath and the campaign curiously omitted the contribution from its quarterly fundraising report. When asked why the donation was missing from the report, on Tuesday, the McBath campaign replied, “Our report is accurate,” and did not elaborate.

McBath’s campaign eventually admitted on Wednesday the missing disclosure on the report was due to a decision to reject Omar’s money, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Washington Free Beacon reports McBath’s rejection of the donation is significant. Georgia’s Sixth District has a large Jewish population – especially in Sandy Springs and east Cobb County. McBath also received a previous $2,000 from Omar’s campaign last October, however, that contribution has not been returned.

The Minnesota Congresswoman has a habit of making anti-Semitic remarks:

Minnesota was warned about Omar’s anti-Semitism by former Minnesota State Representative, Phyllis Kahn, who is Jewish. Kahn served 44 years in the Minnesota State House until she was defeated by Omar in the 2016 primaries. In an interview with The Intercept, Kahn said that Omar was “anti-Semitic,” and that “the story about the two husbands is completely true,” referring to an ongoing controversy in which Omar was accused of marrying her brother to commit immigration fraud.

Omar, along with her fellow freshman colleague, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), have voiced their support for the anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestiture, Sanction) movement. The BDS movement seeks to apply political and economic pressure on the State of Israel and has been called a “cleverly disguised campaign to destroy Israel.”

Omar seems to have a never ending quest to offend as many people as possible. In a March 2019 private fundraiser for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Omar downplayed the horrific events of September 11, 2001 calling it a day where “some people did something.”

Omar’s flippant comments regarding the greatest act of terror on United States soil drew the ire of Jim Riches, the father of New York Firefighter Jimmy Riches who perished with almost 3,000 others on 9/11/01.

“What Congresswoman Ilhan Omar said about Sept. 11 was disgraceful. She dismissed thousands of people being murdered like it was an everyday occurrence when she said ‘some people did something.’ On 9/11/01 my son, firefighter Jimmy Riches was murdered along with close to 3,000 American citizens by Muslim terrorists,” wrote Riches in The New York Post.

Despite her track record of highly offensive remarks, Omar has been handsomely rewarded by her supporters. A Federal Election Commission report filed this past Monday reveals that donors have raised more than $830,000 in the last quarter for the Minnesota Congresswoman. The majority of donations are from outside her Minnesota congressional district and from ACTBLUE, a nonprofit technology organization that enables Democrats, progressive groups, and nonprofits to raise money on the Internet. ACTBLUE’s stated mission is to “empower small-dollar” democrat donors. Omar’s haul from individual donors puts her among the top Democratic earners this quarter.

Omar also has the uncanny talent of making herself the victim of her many verbal assaults and insults. She sure can dish it out, but she certainly can not take it. How long do you think it will take before she calls McCready and McBath racist or Islamophobic for returning her campaign donations?

At least there are still some people left in the Democrat party with integrity.
